      INGOT TO DIE TOOLING
F
URTHER VERTICAL INTEGRATION
Go to Top
Most forging suppliers purchase completed die blocks, which they then send to die sinking manufacturers for 'carving out' of the die impression. Shultz Steel uses a unique approach, in keeping with our "Vertical Integration" philosophy.

We start by purchasing air melted steel ingots (directly from the mold or crucible) from Eastern U.S. steel mills.

Steel alloy ingots are specifically melted to proprietary Shultz Steel chemistries, which provide longer life and reduced die wear than with other commercially available alloys.

Shultz Steel forges the die steel into preliminary die block shapes, then heat treats the steel to ensure optimal metallurgical properties. c17dieblocks.jpg (399125 bytes)
We prep machine the die blocks to a rectangular shape, then machine channel locks, lifting and vent holes, clamps slots and pin locks. 1550PREP.jpg (219973 bytes)
We then machine out the die cavity, using a 3D model and one of our many CNC machines. 1526_08.jpg (141328 bytes)

We inspect and refurbish the die tooling after every production run using an in-house die repair facility.
